Chisenhale are pleased to announce a new work handmade by Bruno Zhu. This limited edition has been produced exclusively by Zhu to support Chisenhale Gallery’s programme.
BOOBS, 2024 uses numbers to playfully spell out a non sequitur that celebrates the ingenuity and irreverence of seeing things where they are not supposed to be. The edition follows a sequence of playing cards that allows for its reproducibility, yet each fanned assemblage is unique and arranged by hand. The cards were manually altered using correction fluid, and every custom-cut mountboard is kissed by the artist in varying shades of red lipstick.
This conceit bookends Zhu’s commission by highlighting the simplicity of its making. Much like its sibling licence agreement, this edition foregrounds several economies of production and value. BOOBS, or 80085, exists simultaneously as a found-object, a collage, a record of a tongue-in-cheek performance, and a spelling exercise. Sealed with a kiss.
