About The Work

From his early monochrome paintings to his calligraphic loops and webs, Brice Marden has unwaveringly adhered to modernist principles of abstraction. This etching is from a series of eight related compositions executed over the span of ten days. Divided into two parts that  echo the rectangular shape of the canvas, this work emphasizes its paradoxical materiality—both starkly minimal and replete with subtle variations and imperfections upon close inspection.
