Natasha Law is best known for her high-gloss portraits of female models in various states of undress whose panties, heels, breasts, and hair emerge from cut-out shapes verging on abstraction. Since the late 1990s her working process has been to photograph and draw her sitters, choose where to zoom or crop, and then transpose those lines to aluminum or paper before coating each section with contrasting colors of household gloss paint. Law’s partial nudes are often described as sexy or provocative, but the artist herself recognizes a more sisterly intimacy.

“It’s become really important for me that I work with my friends as models, as the resonance of that affection and relationship is hopefully there,” says Law. “There is some quality of real, everyday female ‘whatness’ that I don’t get tired of exploring.” In Pop Art’s visual language of paired down graphic lines, the artist creates an intimate, domestic space that posits the viewer as a voyeur. Her figures’ svelte bodies and their relation to garments have made Law a favorite of the fashion industry—her designs have been featured by FrostFrench, Max Mara, and Anthropologie. Her clients consist of Vogue, Harrods, Samsung, and Tiffany & Co. Recent solo exhibitions include My Flash on You, Eleven Fine Art, London, UK, Up Close, Voltz Clarke Gallery, New York, NY, among others.
