Lei Lei

Lei Lei (b. 1985) is a Beijing-based animation artist. Working across multimedia, graphic design, illustration, graffiti and music, Lei connects and collaborates with artists from various disciplines to create animations. His animations are inspired by music, skateboarding, drama and comic strips. In 2005, he founded his first animation studio during his undergraduate studies at the School of Art at Tsinghua University.


In 2009, he continued his studies at Tsinghua University and received an M.A. in Animation. His works include the Red Line Park animation project with architect Li Hu and the Border Planning art project with Ou Ning. In 2010, his short film “This Is Love” was screened at Ottawa International Animation Festival and was awarded Best Narrative Short. Lei has received Asian Cultural Council Fellowships to conduct research on filmmaking, attend exhibitions and performances, study animation techniques, and meet artists in New York City (2014), as well as participate in the 2017 Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions.
