Kimia Ferdowsi Kline
Kimia Ferdowski Kline is an Iranian-American painter and installation artist living and working in New York City. Working primarily in oil and oil stick on panel, Kline's work draws inspiration from Fauvism and is notable for its use of rich, bright colors depicting scenes of entangled bodies and ecstatic nudes amidst what she calls "garden paradises." Her works play with the idea of duality in intimacy. Humans need each other and yet too push each other away. She uses painting as a way of relating to her family's homeland, to which she cannot return as they are members of the Baha’i faith, which is still persecuted in Iran. Her paintings are based on stories from her parents about their garden, photographs by Iranian photographers, family photos, and on her imagination.
In addition to her studio practice, Kline is also curator of the permanent collection at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She is represented by Turn Gallery in New York, and Marrow Gallery in San Francisco, where she has held multiple solo exhibitions.
