Hayoung Kim

HaYoung Kim is interested in modern technology and science, and their effect on the human mind. Her art examines the notion that people are losing some part of their humanity and individuality by participating in a high technology society. Are we becoming, as she calls them ‘characterless characters’? In her work she looks at how the cold, rational and ‘intelligent’ logic of technology can create vulnerability and fragility in people. Kim took part in the Artoll artist residency program in Germany and embarked on a professional doctorate in Fine Art at the University of East London. 

Kim has held four solo exhibitions, in London and Seoul, as well as appearing in over 20 group exhibitions, including Gallery Absinthe, Seoul Korea, 43 Inverness street gallery, London, National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea, Seoul, Seoul Museum of Art, Korea, and The waiting room, London. In 2010 she was awarded the Jerwood Prize and was invited to take part in the Glenfiddich Artist Residency Programme.
