Gisela Motta & Leandro Lima

Collaborative couple Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima explore cinema in many forms, whether video, sculpture, or installation. In their video Você Para, the artists take turns throwing knives at each other, using video as a tool to explore some of the dynamics of their relationship. In Anti-Horário (Counterclockwise), the artists explored the issue of time and its passing by finding the perfect camera lens and angle to shoot a small section of land and sea in a way that made it look like a spinning planet. The artists run on its surface as it spins. “We believe a material has the potential to bring out a concept,” says Leandro.

Motta and Lima have held solo exhibitions at Galeria Vermelho, Fundação Ema Klabin, Sesc Santo Amaro, Base 7, Paço das Artes in São Paulo among many others in Brazil. Group exhibitions include Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz in Brazil, ArtCenter/South Florida in Miami Beach, Muntref in Buenos Aires, Vancouver Biennalle in Canada, and Cais do Porto in Rio de Janeiro, among many others.
