Giacomo Santiago Rogado

Highly influenced by the painters of Op Art, Spanish-Italian artist Giacomo Santiago Rogado creates bold compositions reminiscent of light fragmentation, cloudscapes, and reflective surfaces. Working with various arrangements of triangles, grids, bars, and amorphous colored shapes, Rogado navigates the space of his pieces like musical arrangement—each possesses a particular visual rhythm. Says the artist of his work, “It’s a matter of delaying the first glance as long as possible—delaying the first glance so long that it is more than just a glance, [that] it becomes a contemplation, a conception, or even a state.”

His solo exhibitions include Museum im Bellpark, Kriens, Switzerland, Galerie Mark Müller, Zürich, Galeria d'Art, Barcelona, Spain, Kunstmuseum Luzern, and Gallery Luis Campaña Berlin, Germany. Group shows include the 2013 Istanbul Biennal, Galata, Istanbul, MuseoCantonale d'Arte, Lugano, 2007 Swiss Art Awards, Messe, Basel, and Kunsthalle Baselland, Baselland. He has received a number of awards including the 2009 Manor Art Prize Central Switzerland and the 2007 Swiss Art Award.
