Elizabeth Ferry
Though Elizabeth Ferry’s work exudes a childlike aura through her use of bright colors, shiny materials, and humorous subjects, beneath the surface lays a scathing critique of gender politics that include depictions of objectification, sexuality, and time and growth. Her sculptures and paintings aim to transform the viewer's perception of one being or image into another. In order to do so she injects personality into seemingly benevolent, yet somewhat forgotten, organic life forms and employs them as recurring motifs which act as a visual synonym for tropes of sexuality and objectification. Her work enables viewers to begin to feel comfortable discussing major issues within contemporary gender politics through its apparently gleeful facade.
Ferry has held a number of solo exhibitions in New York at gallery Honey Ramka, and most recently at JULIUS CAESAR in Chicago and Grice Bench in Los Angeles. In addition to these solo shows, Ferry has contributed to group exhibitions such as those held at CANADA in New York, Water McBeer in New York, Gucci Vuitton in Miami, Regina Rex in Chicago, and Orgy Park in New York. In 2009 she held a residency at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and in 2010 co-founded the Regina …
