Edith Dekyndt

Born in 1960 in Ypres, Belgium, Edith Dekyndt lives and works in Brussels and Berlin. She was the second artist invited in residence by Pinault Collection in Lens from September 2016 to June 2017. Edith Dekyndt is an artist whose works offer sensory experiences based on the careful observation of matter and the cultural contexts that surround it. After studying communication, Dekyndt entered the École des beaux-arts de Mons. Her process-oriented and conceptual approach focuses on everyday objects and their transformation in contact with natural and architectural environments. Her installations and performances integrate natural and manufactured objects, photographs, videos, sound, and light, which occupies a central place in her work. Each of her projects is rooted in the observation of minute details through which seemingly ordinary objects and situations become both sublime and unsettling. They invite the viewer to become aware of the precarious balance of chemical and physical phenomena, as well as the transitory and fluid nature of the material world.
