Dinh Q. Lê

Internationally recognized for his vibrant photo-tapestries, Vietnamese multi-media artist Dinh Q. Lê creates a culturally significant dialogue on the nature of memory, war, iconography and personal mythology. Physically and conceptually interweaving stills from well-known films about the Vietnam War with images of anonymous Vietnamese civilians, Lê’s unique style and process expands to installation, video, sculpture, urban intervention and prints. Created using a traditional weaving technique, learned from his aunt, Lê’s work is at once highly personal and universally accessible—unraveling the complexities and contradictions of his multi-cultural upbringing.

Dinh Q. Lê has participated in the 2013 Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, dOCUMENTA 13 in 2012, the 2009 Biennale Cuveê in Linz, Austria, the 2008 Singapore Biennale, and the 2006 Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, in Brisbane, Australia. His work has been exhibited at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation, Sydney, MoMA PS1, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among many others.
