Augustus Goertz
Augustus Goertz is a process artist, mostly known for his abstract mixed media paintings, besides paint, often conceived with non-traditional art materials. His works are textural, often seem topographical, landscape or aerial view inspired, or give the impression to reference physical or astronomical phenomena.
Goertz understands himself as an 'artifact maker' akin to a scientist- very involved in a distinct, conscientious process. Within the confines of this trajectory, he leaves ample room for improvisation, experimentation and intuitive processes during the creative act -- pushing the limits of paint, chemicals and other materials. There is a deliberate physicality to his paintings that reveals the marks, tracks and trails of his creative process-- and that is meant to be apparent.
He has shown with galleries such as Todd Capp, Sarah Rentschler, Kim Foster, Renee Fothoui, Robin Rice a.o. and early at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield CT in 1973 and 1974 as well at other museums in the US.
Goertz' work has also been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions abroad, including numerous institutional shows, in Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, and South Korea. Since 2015 Goertz has shown with Lichtundfire on the LES, NYC.

His work has received much critical support by The NY Times, ARTnews, artnet, Art in America, The Village Voice, CultureCatch, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Elle Decor etc., most recently by a review by Jonathan Goodman in WhiteHot Magazine of Contemporary Art for his participation in MINIMAL IMPACT a 3-person-show (with Christopher Stout & Alan Steele) at Lichtundfire in October 2018.
