About The Work
Through Imitation is a series that depicts two drag queens, Truly Fabu and Andorra Tette, in the upper class homes where they were raised. Adopting the costumes and poses of the very wealthy, at first glance Alix Smith's elegant pictures look like spreads from Town and Country; however, upon closer examination, the flipping of both gender identities and conventional notions of class are delivered quietly and with such a gentle touch that you might not realize the perceptual shift until after the fact.
