Alejandra Quintanilla graduated with a degree in Arts from the University of Monterrey UDEM and attended a residency program at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Mexico, the United States, Italy, and Brazil, among them el Museo Rufino Tamayo, el Centro de las Artes, el Museo del Chopo, la Bienal Monterrey now Femsa, el Centro Roberto Garza Sada. Her work is in private and public collections: among them, the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, and the Museum of Latin American Art, California.

Quintanilla's process of creating a painting leaves behind a series of elements that become the starting point for a new piece. A mark, a line, color, and shape become elements of a new painting as well as subject matter. Making the viewer aware of both the time and process of painting. Her work is a series that is self-referential while at the same time keeping in mind the history of abstract art.
