About The Work
Ad Minoliti creates pictorial work from a mix of geometry and queer theory. She uses this combination as starting point for different installations that encompass art history, architecture, feminism, interior design, animalism and the internet. Throughout her work, geometry is used to represent and imagine a trans-human utopia in which gender theories can be applied to pictorial language.
For her 2017 residency at Gasworks, Minoliti developed a series of works mixing Victorian decorative arts and Arte Madí. Building an installation from miniature dioramas, objects, videos, Photoshop collages, prints on canvas and more traditional painting, the artist explores the cultural migration and collision of opposed aesthetics, creating new hybrids that defy art history and the tendency to re-interpret visual identities.
To accompany her residency Ad Minoliti has created a new limited edition print exclusively for Gasworks. The print takes as its starting point one of the artist’s drawings, depicting a strange landscape inhabited by non-human forms and exotic flora. Like her recent works, the image is superimposed with a geometric figure, an abstract collaged form, which transforms the work into a new hybrid incarnation.
