About The Work
This signature juxtaposition of cartoon-y innocence with symbols of human evil has earned Nara international acclaim and following.
Equally as prolific throughout his oeuvre is Nara's white dog motif, which has been reimagined across mediums. Often depicted in solitude, the dog connotes introspective themes of melancholy and loneliness that date back to Nara's childhood. Its playful yet placid disposition embodies another amusing contradiction found within the artist's work.
"Doggy Radio" is an intimate example of Nara's white dog. Operating as a fully functional radio system, "Doggy Radio" requires physical interaction from the viewer, who is invited to turn the dog's nose to change the channel or adjust the volume under its chin.
This lighthearted rendition of Nara's iconic motif is both uplifting and practical.
