TM Davy

TM Davy’s paintings mimic Renaissance and Flemish portraiture and still life to prolong private contemplation and amplify the act of looking. His early work encompassed loose, colorful drawings of sleeping fawns amid foliage in pastel and charcoal. His work gradually became more photorealistic and his subject matter expanded to include erotic images of his husband Liam and chiaroscuro portraits. Tableaus of blankets, lace, and flowers against candlelight underscore his interest in atmosphere and texture. With a zen-like calm, Davy’s works encourage an intimate assessment of people and objects in soft focus.

Several of Davy’s portraits were featured in performances by Sarah Michelson at The Kitchen, the 2012 Whitney Biennial, and the Museum of Modern Art, all in New York. He has exhibited at institutions including Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Denmark, Witte de With, Rotterdam, Tate Modern, London, X Initiative, New York, and galleries in America and abroad. AA Bronson selected him to generate a portrait for House of Shame, anexhibition at the 10th Gwangju Biennale. He was also awarded the BOFFO Artist Residency in Fire Island in 2012.
