Ross Iannatti

Virginia-born artist Ross Iannatti incorporates various discarded, found and industrial materials in his mixed media works. Using nylon from automobile interiors, airbag material, corroded brass, and other repurposed manufacturing elements Iannatti explores both the object-hood of his found elements and their general essence. In his series Hysteresis, which describes “systems that have memory, where the effects of the current input (or stimulus) to the system are experienced with a certain lag,” he simultaneously explores the disturbing realities of car accidents and the physicality of the vehicular airbag itself. Inspired by the grids of artists such as Kasmir Malevich, Agnes Martin and Sean Scully, Iannatti dissects each of his materials, overlaying patchwork and floral patterns to great effect.

Iannatti has had solo exhibitions at Croy Nielsen, Berlin, DE, F.A.B. Gallery, Richmond, VA, Jaffe Arts Center, Norfolk, VA and his work has been included in group exhibitions at James Fuentes, New York, NY, Higher Pictures, New York, REFERENCE Art Gallery, Richmond, VA, CUE Art Foundation, New York, NY, Open Space, Baltimore, MD, and Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY.
