Hong Gyu Shin established SHIN GALLERY on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 2013 with the intent of exhibiting and supporting pioneering artists. Over the past five years, our exhibition program has grown while remaining true to our original mission; we represent and exhibit both emerging and established artists whose only commonality is their great originality.
SHIN GALLERY proudly upholds a reputation of presenting art with an avant-garde approach through our unique programming and curatorial direction. Over the years, our gallery space has transformed into a massage parlor for the display of works by Nobuyoshi Araki and Rudolf Schwarzkogler; a punk rock club inspired by CBGB for a show featuring Balthus and Salvador Dali; an interactive café exhibiting Man Ray and Keunmin Lee; and an obstacle course of ropes presenting photographs and drawings by Keunmin Lee and Hans Bellmer. Most recently, we converted the lower level of our gallery space into a night club inspired by Club 57 for our current exhibition, which examines the development of contemporary art in New York over the past five decades.
We do not place any weight on the artist's age, gender or nationality when it comes to collecting and exhibiting. Rather, we concentrate on the uniqueness of the artist's idea and the individuality of his or her work. Currently, we represent five talented artists: Andreas Emenius, Loredana Sperini, Otavio Schipper, Keunmin Lee, and Crack Rodríguez
