Reflex Amsterdam
AmsterdamSince almost three decades Reflex Gallery is situated on two corners opposite the Rijksmuseum in the heart of Amsterdam. Started as a family business in 1986 the gallery is dealing in modern and contemporary masters, advising and building up local and international private and corporate art collections over the years, and is exhibiting internationally established artists as well as emerging talents, focusing on photography, painting and sculpture.
We represent artists such as Andrew Moore, Nobuyoshi Araki, Roger Ballen, Marcus Harvey, Daido Moriyama, Harland Miller, David LaChapelle, Yasumasa Morimura, Bill Owens, Larry Sultan, Chris Verene, Robin Lowe, Miles Aldridge, Hisaji Hara, Chen Nong, Phyllis Galembo, Robert Yarber, Erwin Olaf, Barry Reigate among others. This year we will present works by Todd Hido, a new name in our program. The gallery is proud to mention that our artists Andrew Moore and Phyllis Galembo, have been awarded with John Simon Guggenheim Fellowships 2014.
Organizing about 6 solo shows and themed group exhibitions per year, we are constantly aspired to highlight an unparalleled body of work and to create special projects with our artists, this way serving as a continual source of unique acquisitions for our collectors.
The magazine “Reflex”, manifesto of the Cobra group from 1948 inspired the gallery for its name and for publishing, which became a significant tradition over the years. In close collaboration with our artists we produce exclusive limited editions and publish high quality books for which top-curators and museum directors have contributed with their essays.
Furthermore the gallery is founder of the Miniature Museum with works in miniature size by more than 900 artists, which have especially contributed with an original small artwork, amongst which are Damien Hirst, Ed Ruscha, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Longo, Roy Lichtenstein and Yayoi Kusama. The Miniature Museum is on view Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
