NF/ NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ Madrid
Nieves Fernández opened Yerba in 1977. The gallery begun its path in Murcia as a center for cultural and political debate exhibiting the main actors of the contemporary art scene, along with its publishing activity and collaborations with institutions. In 1988, it moved to Madrid, under the name of NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ.
NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ develops an international work that rethinks itself within the narrative of the contemporary arts debate, generating new spaces of understanding.
Interested in reality, though not only in the formal aspects of it, the represented artists propose, through aesthetic reformulation, shifting mainstream thinking and challenging human imagination by social consciousness. As a common ground for them, there is a critical interest on social, political and cultural issues of our times and this is largely depicted in the projects endeavored by the gallery.
Within these premises, the gallery promotes a groundbreaking program, through exhibitions that raise awareness of contemporary issues, and collaboration projects with other galleries, artists and institutions, that promote non-conventional exhibition projects worldwide, sharing costs, benefits and providing absolute freedom for artists to challenge themselves in their works and installations.
In this sense, the gallery understands it should be a place open to criticism and debate, beyond just contemplation. A space where artists’ creativity is a priority for producing activities and gathering new dialogues.
