Musée Mobile Paris
L’Art à l’Enfance presents its mobile museum, MuMo, which goes and meet children to offer them a first contact with contemporary art, especially those who do not have access to art institutions: in rural or underpriviledged areas. This project stems from the conviction that art promotes openness and sharing, abolishes boundaries and transforms our outlook on the world.
Launched in 2011, MuMo has been on the roads of France, Africa and Belgium. In September 2014, MuMo started a new tour traveling in Spain (from East to West) to reach small villages. MuMo has already traveled 30 000 km and met 42 000 children.
The mobile museum is a container that can be easily transported by boat before it is hauled onto a truck to start its journey on land. Once it reaches its destination, it is transformed into a museum with four separated areas dedicated to painting, sculpture, installation, video art and design. Each of them introduces the children to a whole new world. All works of art have been specifically designed for them by 13 internationally renowned artists, on the social theme of living together in harmony.
Since the beginning of the tour, 75% of the teachers who have hosted MuMo think that this first experience with contemporary art has had a positive impact on children, and 80% of them have initiated specific workshops to extend the initation.
