APRE Art House Mumbai
APRE Art House was founded in 2016 by Prerna Jain as fruition of her long-term vision to contribute to the diverse and multi-layered space of modern and contemporary art. The Gallery is located in Colaba, Mumbai. A background in arts management from Christie's New York propelled her to create an innovative platform for the understanding and outreach of the arts, both nationally and globally.
With several multidisciplinary exhibitions and arts programs executed over the last two years, APRE Art House has risen to the challenge posed by a fluctuating period within the cultural industry. Some of the gallery’s key features are - to support experimental practices that are rooted in socio-cultural realities and present strong voices of commentary; to exhibit cutting-edge art that challenges conventional approaches of art-making and viewership, and to provide a multidisciplinary space for dialogue and discourse within a constantly morphing contemporary context.
By addressing the crucial needs in the arts sector, the Art House functions as a conduit to build support networks and to strengthen stakeholder relationships through professional channels. With an evolving representation of artists that comprises both experienced and emerging practitioners, APRE offers art enthusiasts and connoisseurs the opportunity to engage with a meticulously selected range of art in diverse mediums and styles. The Gallery promotes a plural arts culture through regular physical and virtual showcases while also continuing to develop public programming in the form of panels, workshops, screenings, and other events that engender meaningful engagement with the arts.
The vision of the gallery also embraces the acknowledgment, archiving, and documentation of heterogeneous practices in varied contexts. APRE seeks to build sustained and productive connections with creative practitioners by parallelly developing mentoring programs and professionalization modules for young and upcoming artists.
APRE Art House is working with a network of artists, curators, patrons and collaborators in order to magnify the outreach of the arts and facilitate newer definitions of art practice and viewership in these altered times.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Prerna SM Jain has earned her Masters In Modern & Contemporary Art Market And It’s History degree from Christie’s education, New York, and her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Rachana Sansad, Mumbai. She has worked at several art galleries and institutions, including Christie's auction house, New York. She has trained with Ted Seth Jacobs in France, at Florence Academy of Art, National Academy, and the Art Students League of New York. She is an art critic for several newspapers and art news platforms including- The Daily Star, New York Artnews, and Kashmir Reader, amongst others.
