Maya Hayuk

Maya Hayuk is a painter who primarily creates large-scale works and murals. Her work is characterized by bright colors, intricate patterns, and symmetrical geometries. Drawing on pop culture and art history, Hayuk uses what she refers to as “visual information” to create abstract works that channel psychedelic culture. Her murals have appeared in public spaces around the world and are deeply connected to her studio practice. In fact, Hayuk creates her large- and small-scale works in specific relation to one another.

Hayuk’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions and commissions at notable institutions including the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto, the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Socrates Sculpture Park in New York, Musee E.A.V. in Rio De Janiero, and Matucana Artspace in Santiago, Chile. Hayuk's mural Chem Trails was installed in Lower Manhattan at the corner of Houston and the Bowery in February 2014.
