Knick-knack, paddy-wack, give a dog a phone, and a hashtag, because dogs love Instagram, apparently. These famous dogs of the art world are more cultured than we are. They go to studio visits, gallery openings, museum shows—and they always look fetching. To keep up with the New York art scene, forget art blogs, just follow these dogs on Instagram for the inside scoop.
Ludwig von Truffle
#ludwigvontruffle
Hotdog dog Ludwig von Truffle got his start guarding Art Since the Summer of ’69—an exhibition space in a Lower East Side office building that was organized by the pup’s parents, artist Paul-Aymar Mourgue d’Algue and Salon 94 director Fabienne Stephan, along with curator Hanne Mugaas. It seems the dachshund got his paws wet in curating; the space once hosted an exhibition entitled "The Bichon Frisé in Art" with work from artists like JoshBlackwell,Bjarne Melgaard, and Vidya Gastaldon. Now you'll find the charming canine holding court at his mom's more blue-chip shop.
Jesse
#jessebabyboyny
Jesse's humans are collectors Carole Server and Oliver Frankel, who take the doggo on studio visits and gallery tours, making him more cosmopolitan than most human New Yorkers. The hashtag #jessebabyboyny has 106 posts and counting, and offers a insider's glimpse at artist's studios and the couple's impressive, rotating collection... along with some choice plush dog toys that would make any pup pant with envy.
Bertram the Pom
@bertiebertthepom
We can't even with this dog. The less-than-pint-sized pomeranian works at an art gallery (The Hole) according to his Instagram account. His account is over 9,500 followers and 1,000 posts—and every single one of them is glorious, no bones about it.
Pickle
@picklebeholding
Pickle, "a french bulldog with a fine art problem," is famous. He's got 12,000 followers on Instagram, and has his own blog. Adviser Katie Howard is Pickle's human, and she's been photographing the five-year-old at gallery shows and art fairs, sometimes showing off the latest trends in dog fashion.
Confetta
@confetta_poodle
Confetta is the most fashionable dog we know. She models for designers like Chromat, Telfar, and Hood By Air, and was the February pin-up girl in the 2016 calendar produced by fashion label Astrology IRL (Confetta is an Aquarius.) She always has a fresh mani/pedi and wears accessories like they're fleas. The diva is the in-house poodle at Topical Cream, an art and fashion magazine ran by Lyndsy Welgos, Confetta's equally fashionable mama.
Winston Kelly
@winstonthebkfrenchie
The cutest thing about Winston Kelly, "Mayor of Clinton Hill" (according to his Instagram), isn't his sad puppy eyes, or the fact that he wears bow ties to weddings, (or that he goes to weddings), or that he takes naps with a cat friend... it's that all the people he follows on Instagram are dogs. Thomas Kelly (son of Sean Kelly) is his dad, so you might be able to get a glimpse of him IRL at Sean Kelly Gallery if you're lucky (bring treats).
Wegman's Weimaraners
@williamwegman
Last but not leash, William Wegman's Instagram is obviously full of his famously photogenic weimaraners, in their natural habitats: the photography studio.
