Luis Gordillo

Luis Rodriguez Gordillo was born Seville, where he studied at the School of Fine Arts. In 1958 he travelled to Paris where he was influenced by the informal quality of Art Brut, following the footsteps of artists like Dubuffet or Tapiès. Soon after Gordillo became influenced by Pop art, learning new plastic media to express himself, eventually becoming one of the most Spanish artists to work within this movement.

With the discovery and practice of psychoanalysis, Gordillo also became interested in the meaning of things, how everything is connected with the mind and personal experiences reflected in aesthetic expression. All these elements are used in Gordillo’s work to make his own complex language, which combines abstraction with references to reality, imagined elements, symbolism and narrative. His work has been shown in galleries and exhibitions through his home country of Spain and abroad.
