About The Work
As a medium, ceramic has the benefit of effortlessly encompassing both craft and design, bridging the divide between utilitarian and aesthetic objects. Ken Price’s ceramics masterfully glide between these two worlds, even when rendered two-dimensionally. In this lithograph from his renowned Figurine Cup series, Price photographed a nude model posing alongside an enormous plaster version of his unique cup. The work calls to mind feminine iconography, objectification, and the sexualized association of cups.
