Gabriel Rico

Gabriel Rico's work is a study of the process of production. Originally educated as an architect, the artist is interested in exploring the compositional possibilities of objects. He thinks of his installations as "thought experiments," and evaluates the human relationship to nature and myth. Says the artist, "I try to create pieces that fragment the composition of contemporary human and evidencing the geometric imperfection in the nature." He is fascinated by the interplay of philosophy and science; and uses that which is measurable to investigate the abstract. 

Rico received his BA at Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in México. He has participated in a number of residencies internationally, some of which include the Frans Meserel Centrum in Belgium; The Seoul Art Space Gaumcheong in South Korea; WARP Plataform Contemporary Art in Belgium; and the CAMAC Center of Art Science and Technology in France. The artist's work has been exhibited in a number of solo and group exhibitions at galleries, museums, and independent spaces across the globe, including Cuadro 22 gallery in Chur, Switzerland; The Museum of the City in Guadalajara, Mexico; Reyes Meza Museum in Nuevo Laredo, México; GALERIE8 in London England; Seoul Art Space Gumcheon in Seoul, South Korea; and more. He lives and works in Mexico.
