Artspace Presents New Limited Edition by Guadalupe Maravilla
Artspace and Ballroom Marfa are pleased to announce the first bronze edition by internationally renowned artist Guadalupe Maravilla, entitled Mini Relámpagos. This edition arrives at a spectacular moment in Maravilla's career, whose work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and other leading institutions. Edition sales will help fund exhibitions and programs at Ballroom Marfa, which are always free and open to the public.
About the Work
The artist's first bronze edition, Mini Relámpagos is a hybrid lightning bolt and serpent figure that—like much of the artist’s work—draws inspiration from many different ancient and contemporary healing practices. Produced in close collaboration with artisans in Mexico City, Mini Relámpagos is nearly two feet long and engineered to be displayed flat or hung vertically.
Mini Relámpagos relates to the large-scale traveling sculpture Mariposa Relámpago currently on view at Ballroom Marfa in Texas. The artist’s work is also currently on view at PPOW gallery in New York City.
About the Partner
Ballroom Marfa is an internationally recognized non-collecting contemporary art museum located in Marfa, a rural town of less than 2,000 people in Far West Texas. Established in 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn, our contemporary art and performance space is housed in a 1920s-era ballroom and is free and open to the public. Ballroom commissions site-specific and site-inspired projects and gives artists and musicians the opportunity to engage with the magnificent landscape of the Big Bend. As an advocate for the freedom of artistic expression, Ballroom Marfa’s mission is to support the work of artists, musicians, and visionary thinkers of all backgrounds. We commission new work, collaborate across disciplines, and produce exhibitions, public artworks, performances, screenings, concerts, symposia, education programs, and publications.
