Collect: Up-and-Coming Women Artists WOMEN ARTISTS MAKE 81 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR

Full time women artists make an average of 81 cents for every dollar made by male artists. Male artists make 96.1% of artworks sold at auction. Of the art in major permanent collections in the US and Europe, only 3-5% are made by women. Of artists represented by commercial galleries, only 30% are women. Women accounted for only 35% of artists in the 2017 Venice Biennale—sadly, the highest percentage since 2009. And only 32% of the winners of the Turner Prize, the art world's most prestigious award, are women. We could keep going. Or we could turn our attention to the up-and-coming women artists who are emerging into a market and a culture that values them as less-than. Let's show them our support!
