Cheryl Maeder effortlessly combines painting and photography into an engaging visual statement. While traveling through the Costa Brava coastal towns of Spain, Maeder began experimenting using her camera as a painter uses her paintbrush. Seeing the world through painterly eyes, Maeder explores the relationship somewhere between realism and abstraction. Her work is a collage of saturated memories from her early childhood infused with her expanding adventurers from her travels and everyday life. Her goal is for the viewer to see the world in a broader reality. What appears to be clear and in focus is only our perception. While the core of her work is photography, her investigation into video and large-scale installations has expanded Maeder’s visual world. By immersing herself into the world of new technologies and shifting between the mediums, new opportunities for rewarding and creative collaborations have occurred for large-scale installations.
Maeder’s work is in the permanent collection of the Frost Museum, exhibited at The Louvre Museum, Paris, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Cooper Union, New York and Norton Museum, Palm Beach, Fl. Her work is also exhibited at major art fairs, such as Art Miami, Scope Art Fair, New York, Art London and Art Shanghai, …
