Zica Bérgami

Known for her characteristic drawing style, most often with Chinese ink, Zica Bergami’s highly detailed cityscapes and crowd portraits are stunningly unique. An outsider artist born in Ibitinga, Brazil, Bergami captures scenes from both country life and the shiny, bustling capital of São Paulo. Her first individual exhibition was presented by Sérgio Milliet and she would later be reviewed and encouraged by the art critic Ernestina Karmann. In 1959, Bergami received the award Zequinha de Abreu for the song “Lampião de gás.” She had several exhibitions in galleries throughout Brazil and abroad, among them “I Mostra Contemporânea Brasileira–EXPOFAIR” in Lisbon and First Art Exposition Brazil in Amsterdam.
