Vincent Olinet

Sculptor Vincent Olinet reimagines childhood objects of desire–desserts, crowns, marching drums–as simultaneously seductive and repulsive. Like a morbid Claes Oldenburg, his monumental cakes melt so that the tiers lean precariously and his giant worn-down lipsticks drip sloppily onto their tubes. "I like to make shiny, colorful art pieces that appeal to our dreams and urges but actually deal with decay or disillusion", says the artist. For the 2013 Amsterdam Light Festival, Olinet built a lavishly draped four-poster bed fit for a real-life Disney princess. Set afloat on a canal in the Red Light District, Pas encore mon histoire met a less-than-fairy tale ending as its intimate space was exposed to rain, wind, and the eyes of the public.

Olinet’s work has been exhibited at the Museum Beelden aan Zee in La Haye, MAC/VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine, New Contemporary Art Center in Moscow, Musée national d’archéologie in Domaine de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and Kunsthalle Darmstadt in Germany, among other institutions.
