Steven Lyon
A strong advocate of traditional photography and shooting primarily on film, Steven Lyon is known for his strong sensual cinematic quality and film noir inspired black and whites. His first taste of photography was in 1980 when he was photographed by Andy Warhol in Hollywood for Interview magazine. Afterwards he moved to Paris where he modelled for over a decade, most notably for Jean Paul Gaultier, Claud Montana, and Versace. It wasn’t until 1998 that he started working behind the camera shooting images–first in Los Angeles and the California desert. Quickly he moved back to Paris to shape his career, drawing inspiration from cinema and the highly creative French fashion world. The editor of Spoon magazine gave him his first major commercial assignment which led to him shooting regularly for Spoon’s women’s, men’s, and beauty issues monthly. An avid conservationist and traveler, Lyon has also maintained a passion for photographing wildlife, especially in Africa. In 2013, he founded a non-profit organization called Lyonheartlove whose purpose is to educate people on the ever-present poaching crisis in the country.
