Stephanie Patton
Stephanie Patton is a multimedia artist whose work comprises sculpture, painting, photography, video and performance. Humor plays an important role in her work and is often used as a device to bring attention to more critical issues and transform her personal experiences into something universal. Her project Private Practice embodies the issues and elements that remain constant in her work: an exploration of mental and physical health and themes of healing, comfort and self-preservation. The large-scale, padded white vinyl pieces allude to various emotional states. The works are an invitation to lure the viewers into their own state of self-awareness. The artist finds that creating humorous objects often breaks down barriers and allows for the beginning of an open and genuine dialog between her art, the audience and herself.
Patton has shown her multifaceted work in a number of solo exhibitions including Lawndale Art Center, Houston, McNay Museum of Art, San Antonio, The Front and Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, and Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette, LA.
