Canvases provide Fernandes’ works the three-dimensional character of complete artistic objects, presenting on the lateral sides the trail of paint that marks the end of the gesture of the production process. This way, a trace of the occurrence, of the moment of the action manifests itself and each piece contains an inscription of its own time. As for the paper paintings, apparently more fragile, without the strength of the canvas’s structure, white margins emerge approximating it to an idea of open windows for Fernandes’ artistic creation.
The artist explains that his work is the result of his condition in the world, which resolves itself in paintings. It is through the medium, the oil, the watercolor that Fernandes expands his existence. Hence, his work emerges as a reflex of his livingness or even as an extension of himself, manifesting it through a result that, susceptible and even suggestive of multiple interpretations, easily relates itself with the other. The latter, being the spectator, gets seduced and incited to become available for a full sensory and aesthetic experience.
