Santissimi
Santissimi is an Italian duo of artists consisting of Sara Renzetti (b.1978) and Antonello Serra (b. 1977). Both artists studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and began collaborating in 2009. Known for their often disturbing sculptures of human body exhibited as specimens, Santissimi looks at art as an operational machine; the forms more or less accomplices of the “philosophical empiricism in the art.” Philosophical empiricism refers to the act of applying knowledge to perform an operation of thought; or to be more precise, translate into visual terms a scientific or philosophical thought. As the philosopher analyzes the knowledge in its most theoretical, describing and analyzing the more purely "technical-intellectual" forms, Santissimi approaches knowledge as the work of art. The poetic itself is never a poetic declared, it is the fear and the mystery “beyond the borders of the knowledge.” The process of experiencing Santissimi's work manifests itself through revelation, often about our relationship to our own humanity and physicality.
The duo has participated in a number of American and European art fairs including Art Basel Miami, Context Art Fair Miami, and Scope New York. In 2011 and 2013 their work was featured in the Venice Biennale. They …
