Rachael Gorchov
Rachael Gorchov creates hybrids somewhere between painting and sculpture. She focuses on the landscapes of suburban, semi-public spaces, such as industrial parks. By using curved 3D forms that escape from a wall combined with an almost abstract gestural style, she delicately hides the landscape view within the overall form. For the the last several years she has concentrated on two series: concave shapes that are mounted to the wall, and rock-like forms that inhabit the floor with their own painted cast-shadows. Most often these hybrid works have been made through a combination of mixed-media, including plaster and papier-mâché clay.
Solo exhibitions include Reynolds Gallery, Richmond, VA (2018); Fred Giampietro Gallery, New Haven, CT (2014); The Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton, NJ (2012); Gallery Aferro, Newark, NJ (2011) and John Davis Gallery, Hudson, NY (2010). Selected group exhibition venues include Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York, NY; Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, New York, NY; Durden & Ray, Los Angeles, CA; TWFineArt, Brisbane, Australia; Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT; the Islip Art Museum, East Islip, NY and The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY; among others.
