Pierre La Police

Pierre La Police is the pseudonym of an anonymous French cartoonist who has reached cult status in Europe for iconoclastic illustrations that draw from art brut, B movies, and pop culture. He initially garnered attention in the 1990s with half page comic strips published in underground French rock magazines. Absurdist critiques of mass culture, his works often mimic or oversimplify cliches of media and advertising with off the wall humor. His imagery–which integrates human stereotypes such as surfers, bureaucrats, pin-ups with weird, misshapen monsters–subverts normality, truisms, and good taste.

He has had solo exhibitions at Item Gallery in Paris, Stamperia d'Arte Squadro in Bologna, Kyoto International Manga Museum, and Kamel Mennour in Paris, among others. His work has been included in group exhibitions at venues such as Galerie de Multiples in Paris, Tokyo Station Gallery, Galerie Susini in Aix-En-Provence, Onomichi City Museum of Art, and Agnès B. Galerie du Jour in Hong Kong.
