Ohad Matalon
Ohad Matalon’s photographs challenge the ways in which they, and works like them, are presented and perceived. In confronting this tension he attempts to forge an experience that elucidates the vulnerable and unstable nature of contemporary images. Using digital techniques, Matalon’s photographs engage with other mediums, such as sculpture, painting, and performance, in order to expand the resonance of his creations. An Israeli artist, Matalon is also interested in conveying the complex identity of this unique sociological, geographical, and political entity.
Matalon’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions at The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Podbielski Contemporary Gallery in Berlin, TamTam Gallery in Taipei, Podbielski Contemporary Gallery in Berlin, Tavi Art Gallery in Tel Aviv, and the Haifa Museum of Art. In addition to his solo presentations, Matalon has contributed to numerous group exhibitions at locations such as Jerusalem Artists’ House, Contemporary Art Fair in London, Sommer Gallery in Tel Aviv, the Rubin Museum in Tel Aviv, and the Tel Aviv Biennial of Art. Matalon has been awarded the BNL-BNP Paribas-Award in Milan, The Minister of Culture Award, an “Artist in Community” scholarship from the Ministry of Culture & Education, a Mifal Hapais Scholarship, among others.
