Nikita Shokhov

A graduate of The Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia, Nikita Shokhov has been under the guidance of his mentor, Igor Mukhin. Shokhov’s work is based on the synthesis of documentary and art photography. A mixture of documentary work and staging is present in nearly all of the artist’s works. For example, the series, “Ruble” shows the habitat of the “new Russian elite,” while affecting the entire social spectrum of society, wealth and poverty, welfare and disorder, peace and unhappiness. The illustrational series, “Utrish” emphasizes the lives of people living on the beach, exempt from the conditions of civilization in a setting reminiscent of utopia conditionally, interweaving biblical scenes into its story.

Shokhov was awarded the World Press Photo Award in 2014 for his artistic series, “Utrish.” His works have been included in a program parallel to the European Biennale of Contemporary Art Manifesta 10, at the Moscow Biennale, the State Center for Contemporary Art, at the Multimedia Art Museum, and the International Center of Photography. Shokhov’s solo exhibitions are regularly held at prestigious galleries in Moscow.
