Nick Lowe
Within Nick Lowe's paintings and drawings, a mosaic of bright colors and shapes combine to create bizarre worlds in which a diverse cast of characters reside. His collages feature fragmented shapes that alternate between figuration and abstraction. Obsessively detailed, his work depicts fractured narratives that unfold in visually dazzling displays. This frenetic and youthful energy is further relayed in his drawings, which feature a myriad of characters culled from various facets of the media and everyday life. Inspired by influences as varied as Hieronymus Bosch and Where's Waldo children's books, Lowe incorporates their attention to detail into his own unique narratives.
Lowe’s work can be found in the public collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, UCLA Armand Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the Thomas J. Watson Library in New York. Recently he has presented solo exhibitions at the Marc Jancou Contemporary in New York, Black Dragon Society in Los Angeles, John Connelly Presents in New York, Medium Gallery in St. Barthelemy, and the General Store in Milwaukee.
