Melanie Flood

Melanie Flood is a photographer who uses still-life arrangements and methods of commercial photography to evoke themes related to femininity, memory, physical humor, body discomfort, domesticity, and self-intimacy. For example, in her series Mirror Mirror, she uses blank backdrops and objects that she makes by assembling various materials of mass consumerism such as pantyhose, ThighMaster, and a toilet brush holder in order to express moments that evoke the feminine experience.

Flood directs Melanie Flood Projects in downtown Portland, OR since 2008. Her projects have been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Zingmagazine, Photo District News, among others. She has had exhibitions at NADA Art Basel-Fourteen30 Contemporary in Miami Beach, FL, Carl & Sloan Contemporary in Portland, OR, and Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, OR. She is the recipient of a Regional Arts & Culture Council Project Grant and a Precipice Fund Award.
