Martín Sastre

Martín Sastre currently lives and works in Madrid. His videos, which often examine the impact of United States pop culture on the identities and self-images of South American artists, were included in the 2005 Venice Biennale. In The Sastre Foundation for the Super Poor Art he uses a farcical visual language to position himself as a Uruguayan artist negotiating for wider acceptance. In the 2008 video Latins Do it Better (Madonna Meets Sor Kitty), he staked out the singer’s house in London dressed as a nun with a Hello Kitty head and concluded that Madonna is herself a Latin artist.
