Mark Hearld

Born in 1974, Mark Hearld studied illustration at Glasgow College of Art and then completed an MA in Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art. Taking his inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, Hearld works across a number of mediums, producing limited edition lithographic and linocut prints, unique paintings, collages and hand-painted ceramics. His detailed works exhibit a fascination with wildlife; depicting a wide variety of birds, foxes, rabbits, horses, mice, and woodland creatures amidst vibrant backgrounds. Inspired primarily by Picasso, the artist has a great respect for romantic illustratiors of the 1940s and '50s, including Keith Vaughn and Craxton.

Hearld has completed commissions for Faber & Faber and Tate, and in Autumn 2012, Merrell Books published a monograph of his work titled Mark Hearld’s Work Book. He has exhibited at a number of galleries in the UK including Godfrey and Watt in Harrogate; Zillah Bell in Thirsk; Aldeburgh Gallery in Suffolk; and Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden.
