Loïc Raguénès

Loïc Raguénès creates monochrome dot compositions based on professional photographs he finds in magazines, on the internet, or in databanks. Each picture is printed, laid on a light table, and meticulously reproduced with colour pencils. Originally featuring subjects as varied as wildlife, sport, ethnological documentaries, films, cartoons, landscapes, advertisements, reproductions of old master paintings, female nudes, and politicians, these images–much like distant memories–are reduced to a barely decipherable version of themselves, devoid of specificity yet instantly familiar.

He has had solo exhibitions at CLEARING in New York and Brussels, Galeria Zero in Milan, Musée François Pompon in Saulieu, and Centre d’art et images in Orthez, among others. His work has been included in group exhibitions across France including at Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, Musée de Gajac in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Le Consortium in Dijon, Centre d'art contemporain in Annemasse, and Fondation d ́entreprise Ricard in Paris.
