Laura Fayer

To create her multi-layered paintings, Laura Fayer relies on a variety of handcrafted tools, including stencils and large rubber stamps. Fayer, who trained in painting and environmental studies, studies natural and built environments, and draws upon their structures as reference for her loose, geometric compositions. Her works are characterized by their abstract flatness, graphic imagery, impasto, and patterns comprised of dots, dashes, and thin lines; these are rendered on rice paper and then applied to canvas. Themes and motifs referenced in Fayer’s works include architecture, aerial landscapes, language, and music. Her practice is also informed by the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic of simple beauty, which deeply influenced the artist during childhood years spent in Japan.
