Jon P. Geiger

Jon P. Geiger's work looks at the natural and mediated landscape through his ceramic sculpture and collage. At his most recent solo show at Barometer, Geiger presented a series of circular, wall-based works he called Hondo Tondos, which incorporate a layering of steel, found photographs of the Western, American landscape, and magnetized, ceramic components. The name of the tondos references the character Hondo from Louis L’Amour’s Western novels, who was made famous by John Wayne. The character’s rugged individualism itself is a construct of American identity in relation to the landscape

Since getting his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of the Art in 2014, Geiger has had solo and group shows throughout the US, including Redline, CO (2018); Interface Gallery, Oakland; and MASS, Chicago (2016).
