Jeff Perrott
Jeff Perrott employs a mathematical stochastic process known as “Random Walks” in order to compose his meandering abstract paintings. As his practice is chance based, Perrott becomes subservient to process, consciously submitting his agency to fortuity. In giving way to fate in his work, he condones the uncertainty of life and encourages viewers to understand and accept the contingencies of being. This notion elicits an optimistic and open tone which is reflected in the colorful wandering roadmaps that illuminate and give purpose to the endless negative space of the blank canvas. Each motion performed draws upon the momentum of the last, taking advantage of the excitement of spontaneity. His practice of experiential abstraction introduces an unsaturated approach to the abstract field of art, neither catering to the “anti-aesthetic” movement nor general formalism.
Perrott’s work has recently been displayed in solo shows at Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York and LaMontagne Gallery in Boston, as well as in the past at the Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston and Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut. Additionally his work has been presented in group exhibitions at the Decordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, Massachusetts, Zevitas/ Marcus Gallery in Los Angeles, Miller/Yezerski Gallery in …
