Jeff DeGolier
Working with discarded objects, Jeff DeGolier glamorizes junk and other relics of cheap consumer culture through the practice of sculpture, painting, and photography. His manipulation, customization, and constant renovation of banal consumer objects mirrors the American compulsion for continuous self-improvement. His work is drawn towards the relationship between futility and beauty, posing questions about both classic and contemporary American values. DeGolier’s overly romantic relationship with objects allows him to transform his materials, and in turn change the viewer's perception from object into art.
Living and working in Brooklyn, DeGolier co-curates New York’s REGINA REX gallery in which he also co-founded. DeGolier has held a number of solo exhibitions at locations such as the Waterfront Gallery in New York, NADA in Miami Beach, Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens, Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago, Proof Gallery in Boston, and Jacob Lawrence Gallery in Seattle. Additionally his work has been featured in several group exhibitions including the Knockdown Center in Queens, Outlet Gallery in Brooklyn, Art Basel in Miami Beach, Monterrey Dept. of Arts and Culture in Mexico, Swimming Pool Project Space in Chicago, and Howard House in Seattle among many others. In 2010 DeGolier was awarded the Merit Fellowship from Slowhegan School …
